Lemon-Buttermilk Mashed Potatoes

5 cups



2-1/2 lb. Yukon Gold Potatoes, peeled & cubed.
4 tbsp. Unsalted butter, cubed
3/4 cup Buttermilk
Minced zest of one lemon.
Salt & White pepper to taste.


Boil the poatoes in salted water for 15 minutes or until tender.
Drain off the water and cook off over medium heat for one minute to remove excess water.
Take off the heat and mash the potatoes with a hand masher or hand mixer.Stir in the butter until it is melted.Then slowly pour in the buttermilk while mashing. Add the lemon zest and the salt and white pepper and mash to finish.

Author's Comments

This puts a new spin on plain old mashed potatoes. I have made roasted garlic mashed too many times and wanted to come up with something different.
I garnish with a lemon twist to give my guest a hint of what they are going to get a hint of.
