1. Bring 4-5 quarts of water to a boil (Note: This is the most time-consuming part of the recipe.)
2. Once the water has reached the boiling point, add tortellini and cook for 12-15 minutes.
3. While the tortellini is cooking, mix tomato sauce, chunky tomatoes and heavy cream into a 2 quart sauce pan.
4. Cook over medium heat until hot, then reduce heat to medium-low.
5. Drain cooked pasta.
6. Add sauce mixture to pasta, toss and serve.
7. Add grated cheese if desired.

A variation of this recipe was listed in Good Housekeeping as a 15-minute meal using a 9 ounce package of fresh fettucine, and the addition of peas when draining the pasta.
The boiling of the water takes at least 30-45 minutes. I substituted 16 ounces of frozen tortellini for the fettucine, and omitted the peas entirely. The result was quite good.
