Summer Squash and Basil Ziti

1 lb. | ziti or | | similar pasta | 1/2 cup | butter | 1-1/2 lb. | yellow summer squash | 3 cloves | garlic, chopped | 1/4 cup | green chile, or | | to taste | 3 | whole green scallions, finely chopped | 1 cup | fresh basil leaves, chopped | 1/2 cup | fresh Italian parsley, finely chopped | | Salt | | Freshly ground black pepper | 1/4 cup | Parmesan cheese, freshly grated |

We enjoyed this recipe very much, however, I did make modifications: Used 8 oz. of pasta and 1/2 lb. browned ground beef; decreased butter to 1 Tblsp. It made a great main dish.

Instructions
Start ziti cooking in water. Meanwhile, cut squash into quarters lengthwise, then slice. Melt butter in a large, heavy skillet. Add squash and cook for 5 minutes. Add garlic and green chile, and cook 5 minutes longer, or until squash is cooked through. Stir in green onions, basil, parsley, salt, and pepper, and cook another 3 minutes. Toss with hot pasta, add Parmesan cheese, and toss again. Pass extra grated cheese and the pepper mill for each person to add to taste.
