Savory Sausage Stuffing




1 lb. raw double-smoked sausage
2 onions, thinly sliced
14 cups whole wheat bread, toasted and cubed
1-1/3 tbsp. dried savory
5 oz. water chestnuts, chopped
1/2 cup butter, melted
1/2 cup sherry
2 cups chicken broth


Over medium heat, fry sausage and onion until onion has softened. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Place in a greased 9x13-inch casserole dish, cover and bake in preheated 350°F oven for 25 minutes. Remove cover and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
