Dissolve onion soup mix in hot water. Mix in egg and soup/water mixture to meat. Add bread crumbs until mixture gets to be somewhat dry. Put in loaf pan. Press with hands. Bake 350°F for around 1 hour.

Try to use the 1# of meat, as the flavor is so much better when meat quantity is kept to a pound.
Sometimes I put in both bread crumbs and some quick cooking oatmeal.
Any leftovers make good, cold sandwiches. Usually I fix a gravy, and serve with mashed potatoes.
My aunt always prepares baked potatoes and baked beans with her meatloaf. All goes into the oven at the same time!
