Melt 3/4 of the butter in a saucepan. Add onions and mushrooms and fry for 3 minutes. Pour in the stock and milk, bring to a boil and simmer. Cover for 20 minutes. Blend in blender. Melt the remaining butter. Stir in flour to form a smooth paste. Gradually stir in the pureed soup and bring back to a boil. Season to taste and stir in cream.
