My aunt makes this pie every Thanksgiving and Christmas, and I can never wait to come home just to eat it! I rate it 5 stars for sure! Total TBO :)

Decedent!! I did use a different recipe for the crust: 1/2 c crisco, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp bkg powder, 1 c. flour, 1/2 tsp vinegar, 3 Tbs ice water. Sift flour, bkg powder, and salt together. Cut in Crisco and add water and vinegar. Makes 2 crusts. But I used the entire recipe for one crust. This is THE best crust ever. So between the two...this was one incredible pie. Thanks for sharing!

Wow! I made this pie for my boyfriend, and he said it's the best he's ever had! I deviated from the recipe in some ways - I tossed the apples in the sugar mixture to get an even coating, added a little brown sugar for a richer flavor, and (the piece-de-resistance) sprinkled two packets of Quaker raisin/date/walnut oatmeal mix (with extra butter) onto the topping. Try it: it's awesome! :)

This is the best DAP recipe I've found on the internet. Try using brown sugar in the topping.

This was DIVINE and so easy. I added a 1/2 cup of brown sugar to the pie filling. I used 1 tsp of cinnamon and 1/4 tsp of nutmeg and that seemed to be the right amount. I too coated the apples with the sugar mixture. Just before it went into the oven the first time, I sprinkled a bit more sugar, brown sugar and cinnamon on the apples. For the crumb topping, I added a 1/4 cup of brown sugar. It was yummy!!!

Very Easy. This was the first apple pie I have ever made and it was great. My mother-in-law suggested mounding the apples up so when they cook and cool you don't have a concave pie. Everyone raved about the pie.

I didn't have the right type of apples for this recipe so I made it with half Granny Smith and half Golden Delicious and let me tell you...it was awesome. I bet it's just going to be that much better the next time I make it!

Like some other raters, I added brown sugar to both the pie
filling. I also stirred the pie filling with the apples prior to putting them in the crust, and added a little water (perhaps a squeeze of lemon juice here?) while mixing. The result was quite delicious, and easy to make. This pie yields lot of bang for only a small time investment.

This is a fabulous pie. I used all brown sugar on the apples and added 2 T. of flour, 1 1/2 t. of cinnamon and 1/2 t. of nutmeg. I mixed the dry ingredients and then added apples. I used Macintosh which cook up soft and sweet. For topping I used half light brown and half white sugar as well as added 3/4 t. cinnamon. To prevent over-browning on the crust I used the Pampered Chef pie crust ring which works beautifully. The result was magnificent!
