combine sugar, mayo in one bowl, beat until smooth, in another bowl combine dry ingredients flour,cocoa, baking soda add to wet ingredients beat then add water and vanilla stir or beat.Pour into greased 9x13 pan or 2--9 inch pans. Bake 350 for 30 minutes. Remove from pan when cooled and ice with your favorite icing

I was brought up on this recipe from the 40's. My Mother told me it was called $100.00 dollar cake as during the war it was hard to get eggs and butter.It is one of my families favorites so moist and yummy doesn't last long.
