Lithuanian Crullers: Gruzdai

Ingredients
6 | egg yolks | 1 | whole egg | 5 tbsp. | sugar | 1/4 tsp. | salt | 3 tbsp. | melted butter | 1/4 cup | milk | 3 cups | all purpose flour | 1 tsp. | vanilla extract or | | rum flavoring | | Oil for frying | | Powdered sugar |

Instructions
Beat egg yolks and egg together. Add sugar, salt, butter and milk; mix well.
Add flour and vanilla; finish mixing in flour by hand.
Knead dough until smooth; divide into 2 or 3 portions.
Roll out each portion as thin as possible. Cut into strips about 1 1/2 inches wide; cut diagonally into 3 inch lengths. Make a small slit in center of each piece using knife. Fold one end through slit and pull out with a slight stretch. Fry in hot oil until lightly browned. Drain on paper towels. Let cool.
Dust with powdered sugar. One tablespoon brandy may be substituted for vanilla extract. Yield: 6 to 8 dozen.
