Grilled Bratwurst and Onion Sandwiches

8 fully cooked bratwursts, halved
1/2 cup beer
1/3 cup Dijon mustard
2 tbsp. olive oil
2 tbsp. fresh basil or
4-1/2 -inch thick onion slices (I think vadalia is best; some like red)


Combine beer, mustard, olive oil and herb in small bowl. Brush both sides of onion slices and bratwurst with sauce. Grill until onion is tender and browned on the edges, about 10-15 minutes. Reserve some sauce to spread on the "nice" buns. Place bratwurst on the buns. Separate grilled onions into rings, and place on the bratwurst.
