Melt sugar and grated chocolate to milk in a saucepan until mixture is slightly thick. Chill. Whip cream until thick but not stiff. Add chocolate mixture, vanilla, nuts, and raisins and dates which have been plumped by cooking in a small amount of water which is allowed to evaporate. Freeze at the coldest temperature for 1-1/2 hours, then reduce cold for remainder of freezing period.
