Ingredients
| 3/4 cup | shortening (unsalted butter works too) | | One cup sugar | | One egg, beaten | | 1/4 cup | molasses | | 2 cups | flour | | 2 | tsp.soda | | 1/4 tsp. | salt | | 1 tsp. | cinnamon | | 3/4 tsp. | powdered cloves | | 3/4 tsp. | powdered ginger | | one tsp. Mace | | 1/4 tsp. | nutmeg |

Instructions
Mix together: shortening, sugar, beaten egg and molasses.
Stir following ingredients into the wet mixture, and mix well.
sugar, soda,.salt, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, mace and the nutmeg.
Form into walnut-sized balls, place 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheets and bake at 3:50 degrees for 10 minutes. Watch they don't burn.
