1. Brown onion in butter.
2. Add cream of chicken soup and heat until melted.
3. In casserole dish put hashbrowns, soup mixture, sour cream and 1 cup cheese. Mix well.
4. Top with remaining cheese and black pepper (heavy on pepper).
5. Bake at 350°F for about 45 minutes.
