1/2 cup white vinegar
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp. dry mustard
1/2 tsp. hot sauce (more if you like)
1 tsp. salt
1 sm. head cabbage, finely shredded

Instructions

Whisk together the vinegar, oil, sugar, dry mustard, hot sauce and salt to combine. Pour onto shredded cabbage and toss thoroughly. Chill before serving.

Author's Comments

Mayo-free and perfect to bring to potlucks, etc. Sometimes I like to add a little less than a teaspoon of minced or grated onion to this, but basically I like it "as is". You can also add a bit of carrot for color, but this is reportedly the way The Man made it.
