Preheat oven to 300°F. Whisk sugar, salt and water in a large saucepan until sugar is mostly dissolved. Add nuts and cook, stirring, until sugar completely dissolves and mixture crystalizes. Place nonstick foil on a baking sheet or use parchment. Spread nuts onto baking sheet and bake for about 15 minutes. Turn and stir nuts and bake for 15 minutes more. Allow nuts to cool, then store in an airtight container.

These are great for putting on salads, although a few might make a good snack.
Great recipe as is -- if you want to add to it use the pecans as a base for turtles. You can pile pecans into clusters and top with melted caramel and then chocolate -- they were a hit at all of our holiday parties!
