2 lbs. | moose or | 1 | inch cubes | 1/2 cup | all purpose flour | 1/4 cup | vegetable oil or | | lard | 8 | md. russet potatoes, diced | 4 stalks | celery, diced | 2 | carrots, diced | 1 | sm. turnip, diced | 1 | md. onion, diced | 3 cloves | garlic, minced | 2 cups | water | 1 tsp. | all purpose flour | 1/2 cup | cold water | | Salt and pepper to taste |

Instructions
Dredge meat in 1/2 cup flour.
In a large saucepan, heat oil over medium high heat. Brown meat on all sides.
Add potatoes, celery, carrots, turnip, onion, garlic and 2 cups water; bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, 1 1/2 hours or until meat and vegetables are tender.
To thicken stew if desired, whisk 1 tsp. flour into 1/2 cup cold water and stir slowly into stew. Cook, stirring, until thickened. Season with salt and pepper. Serves 6 to 8.
