maitake
Maitake mushrooms are indigineous to northeastern Japan and North America, where they were cultivated and were commonly used to by traditional medicine practitioners to boost the immune system. Literally translated from Japanese as "dancing mushroom", the rippling shape of the maitake can often be located at the base of oak trees, where it will grown perennially.
Maitake mushrooms are also referred to as hen of the woods or sheep’s head mushrooms.
