The tomatillo is a relative of the tomato and also resembles the tomato, however in taste it is much more acidic with flavors of lemon, bell pepper, apple and herbs. They can be found in yellow, green or purple colors. The tomatillo is most often used in Mexican and Latin American cuisine and is a popular garnish for salsa and guacamole.
