orange

Originating in Southeast Asia, the lush evergreen tree is known for producing flowers, foliage and orange-colored citrus fruits. The orange tree was introduced to many warm climates around the world and is mass-produced in Florida and California in the United States.

Many types of oranges are available, including sweet oranges such as the navel and valencia, bitter oranges like the bergamot and seville and loose-skinned oranges like the Mandarin.

Popular uses of the orange are orange juice, marmalade and liqueurs such as CuraƧao and Gran Marnier.

When selecting an orange, the color of the orange is not a proper indicator of the fruit's quality, as many orange skins are dyed. Oranges can be kept at room temperature for a couple of days, but will keep for 2 weeks in the refrigerator.
