Ingredients:

1/4 cup fat
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 cup sugar
2/3 tsp. cloves
2 eggs, well beaten
1 tsp. ginger
2-1/2 cups flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. soda
1/2 cup molasses
1 tsp. baking powder
1 cup cold water

Directions:

Cream fat and sugar. Add eggs and molasses. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with water. Beat 2 minutes. Pour into shallow pan lined with wax paper. Bake 25 minutes in a moderate oven (350°F).
