Total Time:

Ingredients:

Orange or Tangerine peels cut into long, thin strips
4 cups granulated sugar
4 cups water

Directions:

Put 3 cups sugar and 4 cups water into a saucepan. Bring the sugar water to a gentle boil. Place the orange peels into the boiling water; boil until translucent, about 15-20 minutes. Once translucent, remove from water and place on wax paper to cool. When the orange peels are almost dry, roll them in the remaining cup of sugar.

Comments from Paul Fannin :

The boiling sugar water takes all the bitterness out of the peels.

This is the original "candied orange slices" that you see in the candy isle of the grocery.

For an extra treat, the candied orange peels can be dipped in chocolate.
