Ingredients:

4 cups all-purpose flour
1-1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. baking powder
2 tbsp. butter
1-1/2 cups buttermilk
1 cup raisins (optional)
2 tbsp. sugar

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375°F. Combine flour, salt, soda, baking powder and sugar. Cut in butter. Make well in mixture and gradually mix in enough buttermilk to make a soft dough. Add raisins, if desired.

Knead dough for several minutes until it is smooth. Form into ball and place on greased and floured baking sheet (smaller size). Cut a cross through center of loaf. Keep cross shallow. Bake at 375°F for 40 to 50 minutes.
