Ingredients:

1 cup sugar
3 eggs, slightly beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
4 cups all-purpose flour
4 tbsp. melted butter
1 cup milk
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
4 tsp. baking powder
Oil, to deep fat fry

Directions:

Add eggs to sugar and beat well, then add butter and mix well. Add vanilla, milk and nutmeg. Sift flour, baking powder and salt and stir into the egg mixture. Drop by spoonfuls into 350°F fat. Fry until golden brown. Drain on absorbent paper. Roll in powdered sugar when cool.

This look like the abbleskiver(sic)recipe that my grandmother made at Christmas time. You could add raisins or apples or what ever fruit that you had on hand in the middle of the winter. Instead of dropping by the spoonful into the grease, you cooked it on a abbleskiver griddle.
