Total Time:

Ingredients:

3 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup milk
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. cooking oil
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg

Directions:

Combine all ingredients into a smooth dough rolled flat to 1/2-inch thickness. Using doughnut cutter, cut into doughnut shape, using additional flour to keep dough from sticking. If no suitable doughnut cutters are available, cut into 2 squares. Fry in hot cooking oil until golden brown. Drain on absorbent paper. Roll doughnuts in sugar to finish.

Comments from Kathleen Morrison :

While frying, keep the fat hot enough to actively bubble.
