Total Time:

Ingredients:

1 lb. dried lima beans, washed and dried
6 cups water
Salt, to taste
Pepper, to taste
1/2 cup melted butter
1 cup light brown sugar
2-1/2 cups canned pear halves, cubed

Directions:

Put beans in kettle, add water, and bring to a boil. Boil for two minutes; cover pan and let stand for one hour. Then simmer until tender; add more hot water, if necessary. Drain and season.

Mix butter and brown sugar and a little syrup from pears. In a large casserole alternate layers of beans and pears. Spread each layer with the butter-sugar mixture. Top layer should be pears. Spread with remaining sugar mixture. Cover and bake in preheated 325°F oven for approximately 2 hours.
