Ingredients:

1 egg
1/2 cup sugar
1 oz. unsweetened chocolate
1 tbsp. butter
1/2 cup mashed potatoes
1-3/4 cups all-purpose flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 cup milk

Chocolate Frosting:
2 tbsp. butter
1 oz. unsweetened chocolate
2 tbsp. boiling water
1/4 tsp. vanilla

Directions:

Beat the egg until light. Beat in the sugar. Melt the chocolate and butter together. Add to the egg mixture. Stir in the mashed potatoes. Mix the flour, salt and baking powder together. Add the milk to the egg mixture, alternating with the flour mixture. Chill for 1 hour. Roll out on a lightly floured board to a 3/8-inch thickness. Cut using a floured doughnut cutter. Fry until crusty brown (about 2 minutes). Drain.

Frosting:
Melt butter and chocolate together. Beat in sugar, boiling water and vanilla. Mix thoroughly. Coat thed oughnuts with the frosting after they have cooled.
