Prep. Time:

Total Time:

Ingredients:

6 egg yolks
1 whole egg
5 tbsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. melted butter
1/4 cup milk
3 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp. vanilla extract or rum flavoring
Oil for frying
Powdered sugar

Directions:

Beat egg yolks and egg together. Add sugar, salt, butter and milk; mix well.

Add flour and vanilla; finish mixing in flour by hand.

Knead dough until smooth; divide into 2 or 3 portions.

Roll out each portion as thin as possible. Cut into strips about 1 1/2 inches wide; cut diagonally into 3 inch lengths. Make a small slit in center of each piece using knife. Fold one end through slit and pull out with a slight stretch. Fry in hot oil until lightly browned. Drain on paper towels. Let cool.

Dust with powdered sugar. One tablespoon brandy may be substituted for vanilla extract. Yield: 6 to 8 dozen.
