Ingredients:

1/2 cup applesauce
1/3 cup shortening
2 eggs
1/3 cup water
1-1/4 cups sugar
1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup baking cocoa
1 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/3 cup walnuts, chopped

Glaze:
1/2 cup confectioner's sugar
2 tbsp. milk
1/4 tsp. vanilla
1 pinch salt

Directions:

In a mixing bowl, combine applesauce, shortening, eggs, water and sugar; beat on low speed for 30 seconds. Combine dry ingredients; add to applesauce mixture. Beat on low for 30 seconds. Beat on high for 2-1/2 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally. Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts. Pour into a greased and floured 9x5x3-inch loaf pan. Bake at 350°F for 60-70 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool in pan 10 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely. Combine glaze ingredients; drizzle over bread.
