Servings:

1 cake

Prep. Time:

:35

Total Time:

1:20

Ingredients:

2 loaves frozen bread dough (or a sweet bread recipe)
3/4 cup butter, melted (not margarine)
Cinnamon and sugar mixed
1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts

Directions:

Thaw bread loaves (or make a batch of sweet bread dough). Preheat oven to 350°F. Sprinkle 1/2 cup of chopped nuts in the bottom of an ungreased bundt type pan.

Roll bits of dough into balls slightly smaller than a ping pong ball. Roll each ball in melted butter, then in cinnamon and sugar mixture. Place half of the balls in bundt pan over chopped nuts. Sprinkle the rest of the nuts over dough balls in pan. Place the rest of the cinnamon balls in the pan.

Sprinkle up to 1/4 of a cup of the cinnamon/sugar mix over the cinnamon balls. Drizzle up to 1/4 of a cup (if you have the much left) of the melted butter over the balls.

Bake for 45 minutes. Check at 30 minutes. If a crunchy crust seems to be forming, cover cake with aluminum foil and continue baking.

When you take the cake out of the oven, remove it from the pan immediately. To do so, put a large dinner plate on top of the bundt cake pan, upside down. Carefully grip the plate, and the pan, and quickly flip the whole thing over, being careful of possible butter dripping out.

Gently lift the cake pan away from the cake and be prepared for the "Oooo's" and "Aaaahh's". Serve immediately, with or without vanilla bean ice cream.

Dad made this when my sister and I were kids though he used a sweet bread dough recipe as you would for cinnamon rolls. It was a favorite and a big treat!
