Total Time:

7+ days

Ingredients:

1 cup water
2 cups sugar

Directions:

Bring 1 cup of water to hard boil. Turn off heat. Add sugar, stir until all is disolved. Set aside to cool.

Tie a string around the middle of a pencil,*, rest pencil on top of a 1 quart canning jar letting the string hang into the glass, almost touching bottom.

Pour sugar solution into jar. Set the jar in a warm place where it can sit undisterbed for at least 1 week.

Watch as crystals begin to form in about a week.

Comments from dragonfly :

* Put the jar in the sink and overflow with HOT tap water, and empty (so the glass doesn't break when you pour the hot sugar syrup in it).
** You may need to break the crust to keep the water evaporating.
