1 lb. calamari, cleaned, washed, drained, and cut into 1 inch rings
2 eggs, beaten
3 tbsp. water
1 cup plain bread crumbs
1 tbsp. cayenne pepper
1/2 cup cherry pepper rings, drained
Oil for deep frying (or use a deep fryer)
1 lemon, cut into wedges
Salt and pepper, to taste

Directions:

Add the water to the beaten egg in a medium bowl. Add the cayenne pepper with the plain bread crumbs in a medium bowl. Dip the calamari rings a few at a time into the egg mixture then dredge into the bread crumb mixture.
Deep fry until golden brown in small batches for about 3-4 minutes. Drain on paper. Add salt and pepper to taste.
Deep fry the cherry pepper rings for about 3 minutes and drain. Toss the now fried pepper rings in with the calamari. Serve with the lemon wedges.

I have to try this now I found it as I have a similar-ish recipe on this site, though mine is just dredged in spicy flour. Have you tried marinating in chilli oil & then coating in tempura? A restaurant near me does it that way but I haven't quite perfected that yet. |
