Ingredients:

2 cups butter, softened
2-1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 cup sugar
2 egg yolks
3-1/4 to 4 cups flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 to 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar

Directions:

Cream together butter and vanilla. Add sugar gradually, beating until fluffy. Add egg yolks and beat thouroughly. In a separate bowl, stir dry ingredients together. Add to creamed mixture in fourths, mixing until blended after each addition. Fill cookie press with dough and wind out using star die. Form dough into wreaths directly on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 350°F for 12 minutes.

Comments from Amanda Allen :

This traditional butter cookie has been a family favorite for generations, but the key is to use real dairy butter- no margarine substitutions!
