Ingredients:

1-1/2 cups water
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. sugar
2 tsp. butter
1 cup quick oats
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1/2 cup water

Directions:

Bring the 1-1/2 cups water to a boil in a saucepan. Add salt, sugar and butter. Stir in oats. Cook, stirring, until thickened, about 2 minutes. Add first 1/2 cup evaporated milk and cook, stirring, 2 additional minutes. Add vanilla, remaining evaporated milk and water, a little at a time to prevent lumping. Cook 8 minutes. Serve immediately.

Comments from Nancy Otto :

This is not the individual "rip, dump and microwave" variety of hot cereal. You will need 20 minutes to prepare this creamy, delicious bowl of oats.
