1/2 lb. ground beef
1/2 lb. ground lamb
1/2 lb. fresh herring, cubed, skinned and boned
1/2 cup plain yogurt
4 tbsp. butter
4 eggs, seperated
1 clove garlic, minced
1 lg. onion, chopped
4 potatoes, peeled and boiled
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. black pepper
2 tbsp. goat cheese, crumbled
3 tbsp. bread crumbs
4 tbsp. carrots, shredded

Directions:

Put 1 quart milk into a bowl; soak the herring in it 8-12 hours. Pat dry being sure to remove any and all bones.
Fry the onions and garlic in 2 tbsp. butter until golden. Pan fry the ground meats and place into a food processor. Add the onion, garlic herring, and potatoes. Chop until a smooth mixture is achieved. Stir in yogurt and egg yolks. Add spices. Preheat oven to 400°F. Butter a large baking dish. Add the shredded carrots. Beat egg whites until fairly stiff but not dry; add to the mixture. Turn mixture into buttered baking dish. Sprinkle with bread crumbs and goat cheese, dot with remaining butter. Bake for 45 minutes. Serve hot.
