Total Time:

Ingredients:

2-1/2 cups all purpose flour
2/3 cup light brown sugar, packed
3/4 cup butter
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 pkg. (12 oz.) semi-sweet chocolate chips, divided
1 cup nuts, coarsely chopped
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 pkg. (10 oz.) English toffee bits

Directions:

Heat oven to 350°F. Grease 13x9-inch pan. Stir together flour and brown sugar. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add egg and mix well. Add half the chocolate chips and the nuts. Reserve 1-1/2 cups of this mixture, and press remaining crumbs into pan. Bake 10 minutes.

Pour sweetened condensed milk evenly and sprinkle reserved crumb mixture. Bake 25 to 30 minutes, or until brown.

Top with remaining 1/4 cup toffee bits. Cool completely before cutting into bars.

Comments from Mark Horne :

I baked these probably 35-40 minutes, and the center was still not completely set. These bars require a great deal of cooling time, and were more firm the next day. With all the butter, toffee and condensed milk, these are chock full of fat, so arteries beware. But they are delicious!
