About Me: I live with my husband on a gravel road with farmland on all sides (though we don't do the farming)... LaSalle County is a slightly skewed place with some interesting characters and a kind of outlaw feel; Wild Bill Hickok was born here. And if you like to fish, the Illinois River is your place.
I have five adorable cats; I love gardening, cooking and generally creative-type activities: rubberstamping (I've had submissions published in Rubberstampmadness and Somerset Studio magazines), painting and drawing, henna body art. I "sort of" collect Halloween memorabilia, Nightmare Before Christmas items and Day of the Dead art. And yes, I LOVE "The Big Lebowski"; I think I could literally watch it every day, 365 days a year! Favorite music is by Beck - I LOVE his weird sensibilities.
I like simple French cooking, and Mexican and Caribbean cuisines. I research a lot of Portuguese and Cajun recipes since I'm 1/2 of one and about 1/4 of the other. The hubby and I love to grill, and we both like a good beer. My least favorite things to make are desserts; I really don't have much of a sweet tooth. I love a well-made salad (hubby won't eat cooked veggies so I'm always looking for salads, etc.); a perfectly roasted chicken; and salty or pickled stuff. And I have an unfortunate desire for fried stuff, particularly french fries, fried chicken and deep-fried pickles.
New favorite chef is Andreas Viestad - love his fresh food and outdoor locations. I also like Rick Bayless and Mark Miller, Patricia Wells... and the old Galloping Gourmet, Graham Kerr.
