allspice

Definition # 419

Allspice is the unripe berry of a variety of evergreen pimento tree. It derives its name from the fact that the flavor and aroma are reminiscent of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves combined. In its ground form, it is a versatile spice and can be used to flavor meats and sausages, as well as dessert dishes. Also known as Jamaica pepper.
