pear | pears

Definition # 404

Native to Asia Minor, the pear is a fruit that is grown on trees in France, Argentina, South Africa, Australia and the western United States. Pears can be green, yellow or auburn in color, and can have a spherical or bell shaped figure. Pears are one of the few fruits that continue to ripen after being picked. They can be sweet or tart in flavor. Pears can be eaten fresh, used in salads, or used in almost any way that an apple can be used, including cobblers, tarts and pies.
