A green vegetable that has sparse broccoli florets on the tip, but is different from broccoli in that its stalks are long and slender. Broccoli rabe features a pungent flavor unpopular in American cuisine. Meanwhile, it is popular in Italian cuisine where it is braised, steamed or fried.
