A holiday celebrated in the United States on the fourth Thursday of each Novemeber. This holiday commemorates a post-harvest feast shared by the Pilgrims and Native Americans in the pre-colonistic United States. It is a day to show appreciation for the crops obtained through the previous harvest, and is more generally used to show appreciation for the friends and family with whom the meal is shared.
Turkey is the primary dish served in a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, while side dishes include ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry relish, sweet potatoes or yams, green beans, stuffing and pumpkin pie for dessert.
